Prof. Luigi Fortuna, born in Siracusa (Italy) in 1953, is a Full Professor of System Theory at the University of Catania. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering (cum laude, 1977) and has been deeply involved in research in control systems, nonlinear dynamics, and complex systems. He has authored over 700 scientific papers and 13 books, with notable contributions in Robust Control, Chaos, Cellular Neural Networks, and Soft Computing. He has led numerous EU and international research projects, collaborated with institutions like JET (UK), ENEA (Italy), and NASA-related initiatives via the Italian Space Agency. A Fellow of IEEE, he has served in editorial and leadership roles across several scientific journals and conferences. Prof. Fortuna has supervised PhD programs and served as Dean of the Engineering Faculty at Catania (2005–2012). With 7290+ citations and an H-index of 46 (Scopus), he remains a leading figure in systems and control engineering.
